Assistant Business Development Manager

Overall purpose
We are seeking a highly driven and motivated Assistant Business Development Manager to accelerate our commercial growth in the Japan market, with additional support across the wider APAC region. This role is centred on identifying new opportunities, expanding our market presence, and driving sustained revenue growth. The ideal candidate will bring experience from the hospitality, transport, or premium service industry, and will work closely with senior management to develop strategic initiatives, secure new business, and strengthen key client relationships in Japan.
Main responsibilities
- Develop and execute targeted strategic business development strategies tailored to the Japan market, identifying and cultivating new leads and opportunities into commercial growth
- Conduct market research and competitive landscape analysis to understand Japanese customer expectations, cultural nuances, and emerging trends
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline providing accurate forecasting, activity tracking, and performance reporting to management
- Articulate TBR’S value proposition with clarity and impact, ensuring products and services are positioned effectively for Japanese clients and partners
- Collaborate with the sales team to support the full sales cycle, from lead generation to proposal development, negotiation, and contract closure
- Maintain accurate reporting on business development activities, pipelines, and performance metrics with the use of Salesforce
- Support the creation of marketing materials and sales enablement content relevant to TBR client base and in particular Japanese market
- Stay informed on industry developments, competitor activities, and best practices across APAC
- Identify new revenue streams, partnership opportunities, and strategic initiatives to strengthen our presence in Japan
- Support event operations when required, including on-site coordination and ad-hoc tasks
- Maintain awareness of global market developments and potential cross-regional opportunities, contributing insights that may support broader business growth beyond the Japan market
Skills required
- Degree holder or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development, sales, or a related commercial role
- Proven track record in generating new business and driving revenue growth
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders professionally
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, multicultural environment
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- Familiarity with the Japan hospitality, travel, or premium services market is highly advantageous
- Spoken and written Japanese language proficiency
