The People Behind the Journey: Meet Sofia Akil

As the Head of Platinum EMEA, Sofia Akil oversees an elevated service desk specifically designed to support our high-stake travellers. Having worked with TBR Global in both full-time and freelance capacities since May 2017, Sofia brings nearly a decade of deep operational expertise to the team. Her journey began as a Senior Project Manager for the EMEA Events Team, a department she successfully managed in the years leading up to the pandemic.

Sofia’s path to TBR was a natural progression of her background in events management. Originally working as a freelance Event Logistics Manager, specialising in complex transport for major sporting and music events, she found that the opportunity to join a global chauffeuring team in her home town was a perfect fit. Drawn to TBR’s reputation as a pioneer in luxury ground transportation and its prestigious client portfolio, she saw a clear alignment between her own professional ambitions and the company’s commitment to the highest levels of customer experience.

Throughout her tenure, Sofia has managed some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the company’s history. One of the most memorable remains the 2021 G7 Summit in St Ives, Cornwall. Despite the region’s challenging infrastructure, which threatened to make an event of that scale a logistical impossibility, the project became one of TBR’s greatest success stories. Sofia helped ensure seamless transportation for a vast number of VIP passengers, including several Heads of State, by coordinating with a massive team of transport managers and drivers. After taking time away to welcome her daughter, she was invited back in September 2024 to spearhead the launch of the Platinum service line, a bespoke offering created exclusively for VIP clients.

In her day-to-day work, Sofia believes that excellence in ground transportation is built on a foundation of communication, flexibility, and meticulous attention to detail. She emphasises the importance of truly understanding the specific needs of each client to ensure those expectations are not just met, but exceeded. This philosophy is supported by her team’s ability to maintain highly detailed passenger and booker profiles. By capturing these unique requirements internally, she ensures that every driver and partner on the ground is perfectly aligned with the client’s specific needs.

The dedication of Sofia and her team is often most visible behind the scenes, particularly when managing sensitive, fast-moving programmes across multiple time zones. She frequently makes herself available as a single point of contact for Platinum clients, providing a level of consistency that builds deep-rooted trust. This commitment was further demonstrated in 2025 during TBR’s acquisition of Euro Chauffeurs (EC). To ensure a smooth transition, Sofia spent several months embedded within the EC team, learning their systems and standard operating procedures firsthand to integrate their strengths into the TBR Global ecosystem without any disruption to the client experience.

By prioritising strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and chauffeurs alike, Sofia fosters a collaborative environment where everyone is working toward a shared goal. With her vast experience in global logistics and her dedication to service innovation, Sofia Akil is a vital part of what makes TBR Global successful, ensuring that even the most demanding journeys are executed with absolute precision and care.
