Driving excellence… through data

As any ground transportation provider will testify, you can only be as good as the suppliers you choose to work with. Through working with the best, you can be rest assured that you can place your trust in your supplier and deliver a premium service for your customers.

Therefore, it is essential to have a well-managed and controlled supply chain that ensures a consistent quality level of service across every job. This is something that I foresee will become a key trend not just within TBR but across the wider ground transportation industry in 2020.

All touchpoints with our supply partners (including allocation, supply chain management, commercial pricing, and associated administration) combine to strengthen our relationship, streamline our product offering and ensure our customers are serviced efficiently and consistently to a high standard.

As our Chief Operating Officer Martin Edwards touches on, we are increasingly expecting this level of quality service. Therefore, to ensure we can deliver this, we must ensure that adequate resources are put in place, from people and processes right through to tools and technologies.

For example, our bespoke ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system and other data management reporting tools (e.g. Salesforce and Power BI) enable us to capture and analyse customer and supplier data; aiding us to make assessments on required areas of focus and investment and identify any areas of potential advantage. Above all else, the data captured helps us to discern measures of both quality and margin to determine the optimal operational, commercial and investment decisions.

As defined in our ‘Road to 2021’ strategy we have ambitious growth targets in place. To achieve these, we have identified and put in motion a range of initiatives, the most significant of which centre around streamlining our supply chain and investment in innovation.  From there, we expect to reap the benefits and begin to see a return on our investment by securing business where our expertise and capability can add value to our customers.

Looking at the evolution of business travel, increasing customer expectations and demands show no signs of slowing down. As new technologies are introduced to the market (e.g. driverless cars) there will be significant expectations and demands on ground transportation providers. Customer confidence and delivery of our brand promise will be more important than ever, as we anticipate that key industry players will begin to get marked against a higher and higher bar. However, with the right people, processes, and tools in place, there is a wealth of opportunity for our industry to evolve in the next decade.

We will be running our ‘Driving excellence…’ content series throughout the course of January. Watch this space for further updates and if you would be interested in finding out how we can support you with your ground transportation needs, then get in touch with a member of our team today.
